IlloFriday: "Baby"

I would love any constructive criticism on the background in this image. This topic was a joy to illustrate! I'm even having visions of developing it into a full-fledged picture book so any suggestions that could make the image stronger are welcome.

  1. Great illo! I love the "hint" of a baby, and congrats on your own baby coming soon!
If your planning on doing a final illustration of this, I would suggest making the background darker and unimportant, and highlighting the baby itself and the interaction between the baby and the little girl.
    Keep up the great work!

  2. The main image is, as always, a joy. The background doesn't look like it belongs. The lamp is too prominent (mirrors the shape of the mother's head). Also it's white. Try either light colour or as suggested, much darker. But the family is beautiful.

  3. What a lovely moment. The expressions on the family are wonderful and I really love that the viewer is able to get a glimpse at the baby waiting to be born.
Really nice work. Thanks for stopping by my blog as well.

  4. I love the transparent baby. I did a whole bunch of drawings where a baby could be seen when I was little (probably about the time my little sister was born.)

As for the background I would take out the elements and add a warm wash of some sort. The lines in the background pull the focus away from the action.

  5. wonderful movement and expression in this work - lovely illustration
